The multi-technology company 3M has officially joined H2UB as a corporate partner. Through this collaboration, 3M will contribute its expertise to our ecosystem, providing technological and market-specific know-how as well as mentorship.
Our collaboration is not new: over the past year, we have worked together in various areas, including coaching start-ups. Our H2 network has also been a valuable source of insights for 3M, helping the company identify additional opportunities within the hydrogen economy.
“3M and H2UB share the goal of driving innovation in the hydrogen economy. Through this partnership, we are excited to support start-ups with technology, mentoring and market access while fostering a collaborative hydrogen ecosystem,” said Dr. Jens Eichler, 3M Hydrogen Technology & Business Architect, New Growth Ventures.
Uwe Kerkmann, CEO of H2UB, added: “With 3M, we are gaining a strong partner that enriches our ecosystem with deep materials expertise and innovative technologies and provide start-ups with practical knowledge and market-ready applications. Our collaboration creates the perfect conditions to accelerate innovation and bring it to industrial implementation faster.”

Climate technology, particularly hydrogen, has been a key focus area for 3M for many years. The company is actively researching the optimization of electrolyzers needed for hydrogen production. At its European research facility in Neuss, Germany, 3M is developing specialized adhesives and sealants to enable automated mass production of electrolyzers.
